Italy IV: Vatican
Am quite determined not to procrastinate this any longer lol.
We went to Vatican and the place. is. huge.
You will certainly need one day to cover the whole place.
There're so much details everywhere and I think devoted Catholics will have a hard time stepping out of the place.
Bear in mind that I am not a Catholic, so I will not be able to express much since I don't know much.
We basically went to two places: Vatican Museum and St Peter's Square.
Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel required a fee of EUR16 and it would be wise, once again to purchase the tickets online on their official website
As you all are aware, Vatican city is an independent state, but no worries, no passport is required during entry lol.
The Vatican museum contained a lot of artefacts and wiki says that there are 54 galleries in total with Sistine Chapel being the last. Here are just some of the many pictures I have taken in the museum
the only statue with 'real' eyes. It is black as opposed to the whites in other statues.
with thighs this big, you should know this is Hercules lol
sides of a.. bathtub.
you know the interior is so beautiful that sometimes you will forget to see what were exhibited.
the famous Spiral stairs designed by Giuseppe Momo.
Vatican museum took us half a day to complete and oh! there's no pictures of Sistine chapel because photography wasn't allow. Everyone were also supposed to be quiet in the sacred place and have to dress properly as well i.e no bare shoulders and clothes covering knees as a mark of respect. If this is too warm for you in the summer, maybe bring a shawl to cover yourself when entering the chapel.
Then we walked over to St Peter's square. The crowd was horrible.
There were chairs at the centre because we went on a Wednesday, which was 'see the pope day'! Of course this happened way early in the morning, so we missed it.
I thought we were experience summer while queuing because it was crazy hot too!
when we finally got to go in (after security checks), it was nothing short of amazing.
The place is really vast and the details of the interior were really intricate. Either the ancient people love their arts a lot or people are really too darn free without the internet. I am guessing their patience level was really high too.
Unfortunately my camera wasn't fantastic enough to capture the whole interior. Otherwise the photos would have been fabulous.
It's really hard to believe, until now, that what lie inside this seemingly simple building were those magnificent art.
we decided to walk on the St. Angelo bridge and as the name suggests there were 'angels' on the bridge. It was honestly irritating that so many people were selling stuff on the bridge like pasar malam, spoiling the beauty of the place.
Though we could have took the train back to our accommodation. We decided to walk instead.
the walk wasn't very long maybe.. Plaza Sing to Orchard MRT? Or City Hall to Orchard MRT. Definitely doable during autumn.
One thing about Rome is that because it is so touristy, all you have to do is to follow behind tour groups or those tour buses, you will see another attraction in no time. That was how we got back to our accommodation passing through Pantheon etc.
Ending the entry with one part of the dinner!
This was actually delicious but the bread was too burnt.
