Italy III: Florence

You can read the rest of my Italy trip here
Day 3, we decided to get out of Rome since we have done the touristy ruins stuff yesterday.
Some people say 3 days is enough to explore Rome. I agree largely to that statement, although if you really want to find out how the locals lived, 3 days is definitely not enough.

Anyway, we have to take a train to Florence (not the metro)
tickets cost EUR28 one way. We booked the tickets before going to Italy using this website: http://www.trenitalia.com/.
there's another option which is Italotreno but it starts from Rome Tiburtina instead of Termini, that was a little out of the way for us so we opted for trenitalia instead.
Select Rome Termini to Firenze SMN for Rome-Florence route.

Unlike Taiwan, you do not get to know where your train will be, days before your departure date.
Instead, the 'station number' will only be shown half an hour before your departure time, sometimes 15mins. This explains why so many people were waiting around the screen.

We waited at McD instead.
There was nothing special at Rome's McD, except the Miami fries which tasted like our curly fries, except in a different shape.

The duration to Florence took about 2hrs+
In Florence, we only went to the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazzale Michelangelo

There are two different places you can climb steps: The Duomo and Bell Tower. Each has about 400+ steps, so if you fancy some exercise. This would be the right location to go to.

If you want to climb up the Duomo, you are required to queue first.
Unlike the bell tower, there isn't any place for you to 'rest' and the area at the top is smaller than the bell tower, so that's why they restrict the number of people going up at any one time.

As you can see from the queue, it is advisable that you purchase your tickets online before going.
There's apparently some tourist pass you can purchase and you will get priority, but because we didn't stay in Florence overnight, I am unsure what pass is that.
Bought the tickets from the official site

Wanted to buy some stuff from Lindt for my friends but decided I will get it in Switzerland, I thought the stuff I wanted to get would be sold in Switzerland, but no.
Sigh :(
There goes my molten lava chocolate cake @#%$#%$

then we took a bus up to Piazzale Michelangelo.
Their buses have three doors which made it easier for people to board. Of course the number of seats were sacrificed.

This is the 'fake' David, the real one is in Accademia

This is Uffizi
We wanted to go Accademia and Uffizi initially but my friends told me that I probably wouldn't know much about the arts since I am so uncultured lol. WHICH I AGREE TOO, so we didn't go in the end.
Besides, there weren't much time left too.

P/S You cannot take a photo of David in Accademia as well if that's your aim. That's also one of the reason why we didn't go.
Really hate idiots who use flash everywhere they go, because of idiots like that things get discoloured over time and in the end, no one can take any photos @%#$%$#

made a great decision to leave Florence early because it started to rain!

And then it's bye bye Florence!

This is the Miami fries I was talking about.
Oh the BF wanted to have some coffee on the way back so he ordered latte.
In Italian, latte meant milk and not milk coffee LOL.
We had to go back to McD and asked for coffee.
The lady was also kind enough not to get us to pay for the 'coffee' part.

there wasn't much photo of me in this trip, so here's one :P
