Trick Eye Musem VS Alive Museum

5:58 PM
South Korea's Trick Eye and Alive Museum have arrived on our shores recently and they both priced the adults tickets at $25 each. So if you only have $25 which one should you go for?

Come! Let me tell you, because I went for both already :P

Alive Museum
Located in Suntec City, so it will be very convenient for most people.
According to its website, http://alivemuseum.sg/information/opening-times/, it has more than 80 artworks to keep vistors entertained.

I went there on a weekday afternoon at about 3pm and there was no queue and very little people. More people came in towards the later half of the afternoon and that was fairly irritating. Anyway, pictures!

Not sure if you can tell from some of the pictures I have taken (or that I did an excellent job editing), the peeps at Alive Museum spammed too many spot lights on their artwork. Yes I know spotlights HIGHLIGHTS the artwork, and makes me focus on the important parts of the picture, but it is extremely irritating when I am shrouded in the dark because the spotlights are not on me.
Or that if I managed to stand where the lightings were...
Do you have any idea how harsh spotlights are?!
They create hard shadows and your face will look like shit.
Quality of the art works were not very fantastic too. Or maybe it is because I failed art so I cannot understand the different 'art types' anyway, the graphics appears to be printed too lightly or dully so it was not as great as Trick-Eye's
Also they have a fair number of those art, where you put your head on something (see bottom left photo) and pretend to be that object. It feels like I was being cheated if those are counted artworks. Don't get me wrong, in pure literal sense that is art, but I don't get much fun out of posing with my head on something, or in some hole if that makes sense?
But it is not all bad too considering that Alive Museum is very spacious. So in case there is a crowd, you wouldn't feel claustrophobic, just irritated lol. Most artworks do not require a wide lens, so it is fairly easy to take in the whole image for your photos. There are also service crew stationed randomly, so you can ask them to take photos for you, or if you are having difficulty interpreting an artwork, they can also explain it to you.

Moving on to..

Trick-Eye Museum
I went trick-eye on a weekday too and there was no queue and very few people. The crowd came when I was about to finish touring the place, so again for me the crowd was not a huge issue, except that there were more senseless people who went Trick-eye on the day that I went so I was fairly irritated. It didn't help that the place is small.

But colourful. Very very colourful. Trick-eye really lives up to its name of 'tricking your eyes'. There were more creative artworks where people can interact with. Quite a number of climbing, crawling, sitting to do, so the whole experience was very fun.

There were no stupid spotlights too, all the rooms were well-lit, so the pictures came out perfect. In fact I didn't really have to edit the photos I have taken for trick-eye because the colours were already very vibrant and bright, no hard shadows etc.

Of course it is not perfect. Trick-eye tries its best to provide the best visual for visitors, but at the same time these images can get a little too big for your camera. So at many occasions, my camera was not able to show the full artwork. For those who wish to visit trick-eye, please remember to bring a wide angle lens.

My Verdict?

Definitely Trick-Eye.
Yes it is smaller.
Yes it has few artworks.
But surprisingly I finished both museum in about the same amount of time (1 hr +).
Ok partly this is because of my disinterest of those "head posing on something" artworks in Alive, but really, it was so hard to get the correct lighting in Alive Museum, I GAVE UP taking pictures of those artworks.

You very nearly need to bring a whole studio with you to get good shots in Alive (ok, you may say my photography skills sucks, that's okay).

I also liked that Trick-Eye allows you to return to the first artwork after you have finished touring the place, in case you would like to take another shot or something. That was really nice, especially each ticket is SINGLE-ENTRY only (that means you cannot get your hand chopped for re-entry).

In Alive Museum, they tried to make it like a maze I think, so there is extra fun for you to find the 'door' to the next room. This is fun yes, but the doors do not swing both ways. As the tickets are also single entry only, we didn't want to risk exiting and then not being able to enter again, so we waited and prayed that there is someone behind each door who would open it for us.

Note that Trick-Eye will cost more than Alive Museum because of the entry ticket to Sentosa.
If you are a cheapo like me, walk to Sentosa instead because a) it is only $1 and b) Trick-Eye is located very close to the ticketing/ gantry area. Also if you are an epic cheapo like me, you can eat Aston's for lunch and that cost you less than $10!!!

After that you may want to hang around the beach by taking the monorail (free) just to get your $1 entry fee worth. Like we did.

Ok kidding, we went to the beach to take pictures of danbo.

If possible, try to get your tickets cheaper.
Like for me, admission fee was like $18 for each museum because I bought them from sellers off Carousell. $25-18= $7 is like one Aston's meal okay!! Okay, I hope this entry has been informative!
