[spoilers] 상속자들and 별에서 온 그대

9:34 PM
Previously (long long long time ago if I may add) I blogged about 주군의 태양 (Master's Sun), a superb drama from SBS. Ratings from the show were really high, exceeding 23% on its last episode. Then everyone was wondering will the next show be as good as this.

Surprisingly it was better.
The show got a rating of 28% for its last episode
and it is none other than..

상속자들 - The Heirs/ The Inheritors
As the title suggested, the cast of the show are mainly sons and daughters of rich families except for a few poor people (Park Shin Hye) going to an elite school. There's this guy (Kim Woo Bin) who is forever bullying the non-elites and another one (Lee Min Ho) who eventually fell in love with the poor Park Shin Hye. Kim Woo Bin eventually liked PSH as well and yada yada all the drama about parents objections, love triangles (or rectangles) etc.

Confession: I skipped the front few episode when Lee Min Ho was in the States, so I have no idea what went on between him and PSH there.

Nevertheless, I completed the whole show and I was still scratching my head even till today why did the show received such a high rating and won so many awards during the SBS annual awards ceremony.
Apart from the clever use of top stars (LMH, KWB), there was absolutely nothing original.
It felt a little like Boys Over Flowers - recall the bullying of Geum Jan Di, the elite school, love triangle, forced engagements and parents objections.
Lee Min Ho being chosen as the lead for both shows made the two shows really similar

Got to add though, Kim Hyun Joong was a better pick tsk.

I guess this show catered a lot to the young people. Especially young people in love triangles or young people dreaming about love triangles (sigh, am I not young anymore ?)
There was a lot of saving damsel in distress scenes which may have made all the girls went awwww~

Still, not a show I will rewatch (or recommend you guys to watch for that matter).
Nevertheless, there's one person I need to highlight.

If I am not wrong, this was Krystal's (from f(x) ) first attempt at acting.
She played the jealous girlfriend to one of the guys in the show, but at the same time she was rather helpful and kind to PSH despite being jealous of her. The whole show was made funny because of Krystal. So thumbs up!

As if this 28% was not enough, the next show following The Heirs hit 33% during one of its episode and has sent the whole Asia crazy over...

an alien?!?!

by now everyone would have been very familiar with the name Do Min Jun
The gist of the story is this alien Do Min Jun (played by Kim Soo Hyun) who came to earth some 400 years ago, liked a girl and couldn't forget her even after all those years. He finally found her again months before he was about to leave for his home planet, so there was some crying here and there about separations and eventually they were still together in a very twisted happily ever after.

Now I got to say this show deserved the high ratings despite the wood acting by Kim Soo Hyun. Despite all his charms and superpowers (yes this alien has superpowers), he can be quite expressionless at times and this reminded me of Robert Pattinson in the Twilight series.

This show was amazing because of all the wisdom in this old old alien (kudos to the scriptwriter for the wise words), at the same time he got bullied left right centre by Cheon Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun) so that was really hilarious.

If you want a show that will make you laugh and cry at the same time, this will be the one to watch.

Also, I have listened to the OST from this show and I felt that the production team has put in a lot of effort into the OST. Some of the tracks can be hollywood material IMO. Like the one below:

Enjoy watching!
